about

In the Wake is comprised of nine original compositions and original arrangements of Eastern European folk songs. The sophomore album of Blato Zlato explores concepts relating to their home state of Louisiana and its relationship to water, weather, and tangible effects of climate change, yet the musical structures are clearly rooted in Bulgarian folklore, maintaining odd time signatures, modal melodies, and traditional instrumentation.

The band's signature combination of three-part swirling vocal harmonies layered on top of a full instrumental ensemble is consistent with their first release, Swamp Gold, but the sophomore album goes on to explore new terrain with more original compositions, developed improvisations, and emotionally-driven and politically-relevant lyrics.
